Thomas Yon - The Event Host & singer-songwriter

Born in Winterhaven, Fl., but raised in Bryson City, NC.
His parents started a Boiled Peanut business in a shack just
up the road from NOC when Thomas was just a toddler.
His humble upbringing was merely earned from peanuts.
He started singing on stage at the age of 8 at local venues and even at Fairs,
notably the Georgia Mountain Fair at the age of 10.
But of course he grew up with love for whitewater, as he was always found
in a kayak or raft guiding. He took a break from singing and chased after waterfalls
for a few years bringing on 1st and 2nd place in many
National Whitewater Competitions. In 2014 he settled in Asheville
and has been writing/composing originals ever since.
Always active in the music scene between singing at and/or hosting open mics & singer-songwriter showcases, laying harmonies for other local artists, Duo & Trio sets, and of course with the Band Heirlüm that came together soon after singing at
the Muscle Shoals Tribute hosted by the Grey Eagle in 2015.

Kevin Smith

"Take Some of Mine the long-awaited release from native Asheville singer-songwriter Kevin Smith. The record was recorded in the beautiful town of Marshall North Carolina just north of Asheville at Marshall Sound Studio with Amos McGregor at the helm. The 10 original tracks were recorded with an all-star band of local touring musicians as well as the vocal and banjo talent from dear friend and musical cohort Kristoffer Emanuelsson of Sweden. The album takes the listener on a journey with stories of love, loss and longing. Smith draws his influence from real life, past present and future. He has never been afraid to take a long hard look in the mirror and write about what he sees.

Spalding McIntosh

A songwriter from Brevard NC. He has been described by some as “smooth and powerful folk” but thinks of himself primarily as a songwriter whose genre knows no bounds. “I just write from the heart and sometimes it comes out rootsy, sometimes country, heck I’m not above writing a pop song! As long as I can get it out I’m happy.”

Billy Martin

His music stems from a deep background of classical rock music. Growing up with a musical family, and always being around garage bands, it was only a matter of time before he picked up a guitar himself. Although he started with the oldies, Billy is greatly inspired by an array of newer artists drawing from a wide range of genres. He likes to say that his music is mostly of a sad tone, but they're also cathartic, and there are a few poppier songs to even out the mix.
Spalding McIntosh & Thomas Yon of Heirlüm will be trading off tunes together at
Mica's Restaurant & Pub this coming Friday, November 23rd starting at 6:30. See you there!

Featuring Singer-Songwriters:

Chad Jordan
Residing in the Swannanoa valley of western North Carolina. Crafting an ever growing list of songs since the mid 90s and being in a handful of bands along the way, he is currently embarking on a solo journey showcasing his introspective acoustic indie-folk material. The omnipresent theme of many of his songs is constant drive to evolve and escape the mundane of modern society. However, sprinkled in are a few more light-hearted songs such as the horticulturally educational "How to Grow Tomatoes" song. You can check Chad's recent two-part interview out on the "WNC Original Music" podcast to learn more about his material.

Nate Straffon
Grew up around the world, and currently lives in Asheville. Writing his first song at 8, he has developed into a prolific lyricist and songwriter. His playing style is both gentle and, at times, raw: comfortable easy-listening with an edge. What's the edge? Songs written about true events, real emotions, and gripping stories. Using his voice and guitar to convey it all, he aims to entertain, and, if possible, move.

Matt Sellars
Lives and breathes southern music and culture. They are the driving forces that keep him moving forward day after day. For fans of folk, Americana, country, bluegrass and the like, Matt Sellars is worth a listen.

After years of honing his craft in front of audiences in western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee and throughout the south, Matt stepped in to the studio to make his first recorded effort, 2013’s This Side of the Mississippi. The recordings on this album reflect the array of regional influences Matt has absorbed over the years. His style rings true to the music he loves and devotes himself to; the sounds of classic artists like Doc Watson and John Prine marry seamlessly with contemporary favorites like Justin Townes Earle and Tim O'Brien.

Listeners looking for a new artist to enjoy are sure to get their fix from Matt Sellars. There is plenty of heart and soul in Matt’s music, interlaced with his characteristic lightheartedness. Good songwriting always comes from a place of passion and inspiration, and these qualities are inherent in this latest collection of original songs.
